IIS Error: Invalid character in the given encoding

IIS will not start and IIS Manager displays error below when you try to start the service.
C:\Windows\System 32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config
Invalid character in the given encoding
Looks like the config file is corrupt preventing the IIS service from starting. Follow the steps below to restore the service.
Look in the folder c:\InetSrv\History and you may have a backup of the file (applicationHost.config) from when it was last changed.
Copy the backup applicationHost.config file to the folder C:\Windows\System 32\inetsrv\config.
Start the service.
All fixed :-)
