Lotus Notes - Notes Client error: IBM Notes failed to start successfully

IBM Lotus Notes Client will not start. After entering the users password it eventually displays the error message "IBM Notes failed to start successfully".

Check if it will start in Basic mode (test by appending -sa to the desktop shortcut command line and running). If so then it may be a Java issue. 
 
  1. Copy the Framework folder (c:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Lotus\Notes\framework) from another client which does work and is the same version. Overwrite all files and merge folders when prompted.
  2. Start Client.
 
Issue affects Standard clients only.

Thank you for this hint. It is not always necessary to copy a "working version" of the directory "framework". I had the same problem and solved it this way: - rename directory framework into framework_old - start Notes (it will show another look and feel as before) - rename framework_old into framework again - stop Notes - start Notes
