Lotus Notes Client not starting - Loading... Please wait loop
IBM (Error) Friday, 22 June 2012 by paul

Loading...

The Lotus Notes client displays the splash screen and accepts the username/password and then does not complete loading. Progress bar keeps looping around with the message "Loading.. Please wait" displayed. This is probably due to a plugin issue. It can be fixed by following the steps below:

  1. Run command prompt
  2. Change directory to Lotus Notes client program folder (C:\Program File\IBM\Lotus\Notes by default)
  3. Enter "notes.exe -RPARAMS -resetconfig -clean"
  4. Lotus Notes client should now start properly

This should clean the workspace, plugins and then clear out the cache.

Please note that the command should only be run once or it will slow the Notes client start if run every time.

Thanks to Simon O'Doherty for pointing this out on a blog and Google for finding it.

Edit: When this has not helped I have also had luck with renaming the Workspace folder under the Data folder then restarting the client. Or installing latest Fix Pack!

Thank you. It was very helpful.

Awesome first time the fix worked by going into the Program Files (x86)\IBM\Notes. When closed an Notes was relaunched, the client began the same behavior. So now going to other folder paths to run the cmd on the Program File. I think it's because it's a 64 bit program being run on a 32 bit system. go figure, non-profits.

renaming the workspace folder worked. thanks a lot! :)
Friday, 14 June 2013 by Ryan West
This (Renaming workspace folder) worked for gaining access to notes but i also have Designer installed. When I try to open a database from notes client in designer I get an error message indicating that it cannot open it from Notes basic. So in other words now that I've renamed that folder it thinks it's the basic version of notes.

Sadly it hasn't worked for me. I have also tried renaming the Workspace dir to old - it does create a new Workspace dir on its attempted started up - but it remains empty of files.
